The works are explorations of colour, application (marks), and the condensed sensation of space. Initially, I mix between 20-30 tubs of paint; the colours I make at times relate to ones I have seen and chosen to remix in the studio, others are made up on the spot. I then begin applying areas of colour to the canvas and continue to build up layers of colour and marks; there comes a moment where I become more discerning about the work; and the process to exclude and or include particular colours and with which mark to deliver them is more deliberate. Refining what I feel to be most effective or interesting in that particular work, which continually consists of combining disparate unions of say gestural and flat marks or of beauty against an awkwardness. This makes the work dynamic and rich.
